The counter-attacking strategy of BKSP proved worthy in the end against their opponents brittle defense but it was the exhibition of squandering chances from the giants which actually made the difference.Moroccan Touati Youness, who was instrumental in Russel's success in the last few seasons to emerge as a giant, spoiled a number of scoring chances to set his side kick off their journey with red faces.Russel, the semifinalist of the inaugural B. League, however made an impressive start and got the first scoring chance in the eleventh minute but lanky Youness produced a feeble shot in front of an open net for which BKSP defender Konok got enough time to save. The new giants continued their attack from the wings but for a few occasions BKSP, led by Royal, terrorised their opponents through their counter scheme and Sabuj capitalised with one.He received the ball from Royal and rounded off Russel defender Zahir before unleashing a curving shot leaving goalkeeper Titumir helpless.Russel regrouped after the breather and started with great pace and in the second minute of second-half, the woodwork denied Youness the equalizer. The Moroccan's header from a Tanvir cross from the left side flew away after hitting the cross bar.Touati then got the easiest chance of the match in the 54th minute but the playmaker missed an open net when he played wide after receiving the ball from veteran striker Alfaz. After that BKSP however took the control of the match especially their coach's courageous move to bring in striker Sabbir in the 60th minute changed the whole scenario as BKSP created one chance after another.Sabuj however spoiled two good opportunities to extend the lead while BKSP custodian Mostaque foiled two good attempts to make sure his side securing the brilliant win in their first match of the final round of the competition.TEAMSBKSP: Mostaque, Russel, Saikat, Konok, Any, Manik, Rana, Royel, Papel (Sumon), Sabuj and Sumon Kumar (Sabbir).SHEIKH RUSSEL: Titumir, Parvez, Hassan, Zahirul, Aminul, Tanveer, Ezzanzoun, Monwar, Saiful (Bulbul), Alfaz (Rajon) and Touati.YELLOW CARDS: Konok and Any (BKSP).REFEREE: Mizanur Rahman.BROTHERS-VICTORIABrothers Union, predictably, registered a 2-0 win over qualifiers Victoria Sporting Club in the second match of group C.Liton slotted home a penalty in the 23rd minute before Farhad scored in the 42nd minute.
